We finally got the Lexus pulled apart

Apparently a plastic bit in the timing cover broke off (a la Cummins killer dowel pin), got stuck under a pulley, stretched the belt, jumped time, and:

Considering the dealer had that all apart just last year... That is beyond unfortunate. Was this a Lexus dealer by chance?

Have you or your dad contacted them yet? This is just absurd. And if the timing cover was damaged, it means they slapped it back on, willingly or unknowingly doesn't matter in my mind. Hopefully they'll foot the labor if you foot the parts...

Nope, it looks as it it was a freak accident. It went 17k or so miles on it. It appears it was the little plastic tab in the driver's side timing cover that snapped off.

Yup, he has a 40k mile engine on a stand. Just replaced the timing belt and starter, and it’s pretty much ready to go in, once this engine is out.

My Dad just wants a comfortable cruiser, so nah. We have a 40k mile engine on a stand for it. If he really needs an LS fix, he can drive my Vette.
